In January 2025, Eversource reached an agreement to sell its Aquarion Company subsidiary to the Aquarion Water Authority (AWA), a newly created quasi-public water authority that will operate alongside the South Central Connecticut Regional Water Authority (RWA), also a not-for-profit, public corporation and political subdivision of the state. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval by the Connecticut Public Utilities Regulatory Authority, the Massachusetts Department of Public Utilities, and the New Hampshire Public Utilities Commission, among other approvals. The sale is expected to close in late 2025.
